MEMBERSHIP MEETING

Report:
This had to be one of the liveliest meetings we've had in a long time!  There were allot of smiling faces from the previously laid-off workers as they were warmly greeted by their brothers & sisters in the Union.

CWA 1101 President, Joe Connolly, opened the meeting to a huge round of applause from the entire Membership.   A brief rundown on the events surrounding our win at the recent Arbitration was given and then President Connolly introduced our two new heroes: David A. Mintz, the lawyer who represented us and fought against Verizon's powerhouse of 6 lawyers and Elisa Riordan, who's case actually WON the arbitration!   We owe these two people a huge debt of gratitude for their courage and tenacity in taking on a mega-firm like Verizon!

Next up was Executive Vice President, Angel Feliciano, who, after warmly welcoming home our fellow Members, gave a brief rundown of questions the Local has been receiving from Members regarding their return to work.  (A list of the Q&A's) The meeting was then opened to individual Member's questions regarding their return to work and its effect on everything from health care and education to 40lK plans and returning work locations.  Many Members took this opportunity to thank the Union Reps for their efforts in getting them back to work.

After a break, we returned to a 'standing-room-only' crowd!  The meeting was then focused on the possible upcoming strike.  Striker Relief Fund Certification forms had been handed out earlier and there was a lively discussion about Verizon's demands.  Naturally, much of the meeting was then centered on the actual strike itself, picketing issues etc., all of which will be covered in the coming days.  The meeting finally closed to another huge round of applause, as the joyful crowd poured onto the streets, ready for the next battle!
